Research partnerships

The best research is often born from collaborations with practitioners. Prof. De-Arteaga regularly collaborates with public entities, companies and other organizations in joint research projects. Past and current partners include the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), Allegheny County Department of Human Services, and LinkedIn.

Public policy impact

Prof. De-Arteaga’s research on responsible AI has informed public policy and regulatory guidelines through different avenues. Most notably, her work has been cited as part of NIST’s Risk Management Framework Playbook and in the 2025 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.

Keynotes

As part of her research dissemination, Prof. De-Arteaga routinely gives talks to academic, industry and general public audiences. Past keynotes include Harvard’s HDSI Annual Conference, the International Symposium on Trustworthy Autonomous Systems, the Colombian Mathematical Congress, Facebook’s Responsible NLP Summit, and UNESCO’s Tech4Dev Conference.

Data-driven investigative journalism

Prior to working on academia, Prof. De-Arteaga worked as a journalist at Semana and Connectas. Throughout the years, she has conducted various data-driven investigative journalism projects, including work on patterns of sexual violence in El Salvador and killings of social leaders in the Colombian post-conflict.

Consulting

Through consulting, Prof. De-Arteaga provides guidance and feedback to industry practitioners seeking to better understand risks of algorithmic bias and responsible integration of ML/AI in organizations.
